IT Network Engineer

CoolSys•UNAVAILABLE, UNAVAILABLE

About The Position

CoolSys is seeking a mid-level Network Engineer to support reliable connectivity across a geographically distributed, multi-site environment. The role is intended for an engineer with 4 to 8 years of progressively responsible network operations or engineering experience, preferably including managed service provider experience or support for multiple customers, locations, or business units. The engineer independently handles routine and moderately complex network operations, incidents, deployments, and approved changes. The position requires practical experience with dynamic routing, SD-WAN, enterprise wireless networking, configuration standards, and command-line troubleshooting. It is not an architect, senior engineering, software-development, or people-management position. Enterprise architecture, strategic platform selection, novel design approval, and authorization of high-risk exceptions remain with senior engineering, architecture, or management. The position collaborates with security, infrastructure, cloud, identity, application, and service desk teams. For VPN, firewall, DNS, DHCP, authentication, and access-control incidents, the engineer performs network-focused analysis and involves the appropriate specialist as needed. The role may coordinate defined activities such as branch deployments or maintenance events but does not include formal team leadership or personnel management. Material architectural changes and high-risk exceptions require senior review and approval. The position participates in a reasonable on-call rotation and occasional after-hours maintenance, coordinating changes, communicating service impact, following escalation procedures, and maintaining accurate records. CoolSys offers competitive pay of $80,000–$100,000 depending on relevant experience, plus medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage, paid time off, retirement matching, and other listed benefits. The company has over 3,700 associates nationwide and serves more than 45,000 customer locations.

Requirements

  • Production experience operating networks that use OSPF, BGP, and dynamic routing.
  • Hands-on experience with one SD-WAN platform, such as Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN, Cisco Meraki, Fortinet Secure SD-WAN, Palo Alto Prisma SD-WAN, VMware VeloCloud, or a comparable solution.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise Wi-Fi, including RF fundamentals, channel utilization, transmit-power adjustment, interference, roaming, coverage, capacity, and authentication.
  • Comfort working regularly through network operating-system command-line interfaces.
  • A structured troubleshooting method using evidence, testable hypotheses, controlled remediation, and post-change validation.
  • Experience with standardized configurations, repeatable deployments, configuration-drift identification, software or firmware upgrades, and rollback procedures.
  • Ability to resolve routine and moderately complex incidents independently and escalate unfamiliar, high-risk, or architecture-level issues appropriately.
  • Clear, professional communication with end users, site contacts, service desk personnel, technical teams, vendors, carriers, and business stakeholders.
  • Technical education, a relevant degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • The position is intended for an engineer with 4 to 8 years of progressively responsible network operations or engineering experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Managed service provider experience or experience supporting numerous sites, customers, or business units.
  • CCNA, CCNP Enterprise, or a comparable vendor certification.
  • Experience maintaining templates or modifying existing workflows that use Git, APIs, Python, PowerShell, Ansible, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with VPNs, firewalls, DNS, DHCP, authentication, and network access control.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and troubleshoot LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, routing, and wireless services across multiple locations.
  • Diagnose OSPF and BGP issues involving adjacencies, route selection, filtering, redistribution, summarization, default-route behavior, convergence, failover, and asymmetric routing.
  • Collect evidence, identify likely root causes, implement approved changes, and validate service restoration.
  • Support a multi-site SD-WAN environment, including branch onboarding, overlay and underlay connectivity, application-aware routing, path selection, circuit preference, failover testing, and performance monitoring.
  • Investigate circuit degradation and coordinate with internet and telecommunications providers.
  • Troubleshoot Wi-Fi problems involving coverage, capacity, interference, channel use, transmit power, roaming, authentication, and client connectivity.
  • Distinguish network problems from DHCP, DNS, authentication, application, and endpoint symptoms.
  • Use network-device command-line interfaces to review configurations, inspect routes and neighbors, examine interface behavior, trace traffic, interpret logs, and perform controlled changes.
  • Support branch openings, office migrations, circuit replacements, equipment refreshes, and planned maintenance.
  • Develop implementation, testing, validation, and rollback plans for approved designs.
  • Maintain diagrams, inventories, configuration templates, operating procedures, and change records.
  • Monitor network health, identify recurring problems, and recommend practical improvements.
  • Participate in a reasonable on-call rotation and occasional after-hours maintenance.
  • Collaborate with security, infrastructure, cloud, identity, application, and service desk teams; perform network-focused analysis on related incidents and engage appropriate specialists when needed.
  • Coordinate defined activities such as branch deployments or maintenance events.
  • Communicate service impacts, follow escalation procedures, and maintain accurate records of actions and outcomes.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, vision, and prescription coverage, including medical coverage starting at $0 per paycheck.
  • Paid vacation, holidays, and a floating holiday.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • Company-sponsored life insurance and optional AD&D, short-term disability, and long-term disability.
  • Tuition reimbursement.
  • Employee discounts on vehicles, hotels, theme parks, select cell phone bills, and more.
  • Pet insurance.
  • Legal plan and identity theft protection.
  • Competitive pay of $80,000–$100,000 depending on relevant experience.
