As the IT Lead, Workday (Payroll) Tech DevOps, you will serve as a senior technical architect and hands-on developer responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of Workday solutions. This role has a strong emphasis on designing and supporting solutions that enable Workday Payroll and Time Tracking operations, including advanced data flows from Core HCM, Compensation, Benefits, Absence Management, and Time Tracking into Payroll. You will lead the development of innovative Workday Extend applications and Prism Analytics pipelines that enhance payroll processing, improve data quality, and strengthen the integrations and analytics that support payroll‑critical business processes. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 5+ years of hands-on Workday development experience with a focus on Payroll, Time Tracking, and cross‑module data flows.
  • Expertise with Workday Extend, Workday Prism Analytics, and integration development.
  • Experience supporting large global or multi-country payroll environments.
  • Deep technical knowledge of Workday’s payroll architecture, APIs, security model, and datasets.
  • Strong proficiency with Workday Studio, Core Connectors, EIB, and REST/SOAP web services.
  • Familiarity with JSON, XML, XSLT, Java, or similar integration technologies.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to HR, Payroll, and business stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with management.
  • Ability to visualize and plan objectives and goals strategically.
  • Ability to be creative in designing products.
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to change and alter according to changes in projects or business environment.
  • Proficient in Project Management tools (i.e., MS Project) or similar project tool(s).
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, and web browsers.

Nice To Haves

  • Workday Pro certifications in Payroll, Time Tracking, Integrations, Extend, and Prism Analytics.
  • Experience with global payroll transformations or modernization programs.
  • Background in Agile or DevOps practices for Workday.
  • Experience collaborating with offshore development teams.
  • PMI Certification is desired but not required.
  • Previous experience taking a product line to market is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with Payroll, Time & Attendance, and HR COE teams to translate payroll- and time-related business needs into scalable technical solutions.
  • Conduct discovery sessions to document functional and non-functional requirements related to gross-to-net processing, time calculation rules, pay components, and payroll reporting.
  • Analyze gaps between standard Workday functionality and specialized payroll needs, especially those requiring advanced configurations, Extend apps or Prism datasets.
  • Workday Extend: Architect and develop custom applications that support payroll operations, such as pay data validation tools, payroll readiness dashboards, exception‑handling utilities, and workflow enhancements across upstream modules.
  • Workday Prism: Build and manage data pipelines that blend payroll, time, and HR data from Workday and external systems to improve payroll accuracy, auditability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Integration Development: Design and maintain EIBs, Core Connectors, and Studio integrations supporting end‑to‑end payroll and time data flows, ensuring data integrity between Workday Modules and External payroll vendors and enterprise systems.
  • Create Technical Design Documents (TDDs) and system architecture diagrams with a strong focus on payroll‑related data orchestration.
  • Provide advanced technical oversight for Core HCM, Compensation, Benefits, Payroll, Time Tracking, Absence, Recruiting, Learning and Talent modules.
  • Provide expert-level technical support for Payroll and Time Tracking, including upstream modules that impact payroll calculations.
  • Troubleshoot complex payroll defects, time calculation issues, data discrepancies, and performance concerns across integrations and Extend apps.
  • Evaluate Workday biannual releases with special focus on Payroll, Time Tracking, and related cross‑module features.
  • Implement leading practices for integration monitoring and error recovery, with a focus on payroll dependencies and data timing
  • Partner with enterprise IT to ensure Workday integrations align with global data and security standards.
  • Implement CI/CD best practices for Workday integrations, Extend apps, and Prism pipelines.
  • Ensure payroll‑critical data meets compliance and security standards (SOX, GDPR, IRS/state/local regulations).
  • Maintain governance across all Prism datasets feeding payroll analytics.
  • Mentor junior developers and elevate the team's technical capabilities in payroll‑centric solution design.
  • Define and communicate a comprehensive IT product strategy that aligns with the organization's overall business strategy. Develop and maintain a product roadmap that outlines key initiatives and enhancements.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, security, and business units, to ensure successful product development and delivery. Foster strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Conduct research to identify industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in IT product management. Use market insights to inform product decisions and stay ahead of competitors.
  • Lead the product development process, defining product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria. Work with engineering teams to prioritize and execute product enhancements.
  • Plan and execute product launches, including developing go-to-market strategies, pricing strategies, and marketing campaigns. Collaborate with marketing and sales teams to ensure successful product introductions.
  • Define and track key performance metrics for IT products, such as system uptime, reliability, performance, and user satisfaction. Use data-driven insights to drive product improvements.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks and challenges associated with IT product development and deployment.
  • Effectively communicate the IT product vision, strategy, and progress to internal and external stakeholders. Ensure alignment and buy-in from all relevant teams.
