About The Position

As a Workday Functional Lead (Payroll, Time & Absence) – Software Engineer III, you’ll play a critical role in shaping the future of our Human Capital Systems. You’ll design, configure, implement, and maintain Workday Payroll & Time/Absence modules that drive efficiency and scalability across the organization. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with HR, IT, and key stakeholders to turn complex business requirements into streamlined, high-quality Workday solutions—ensuring compliance and delivering an exceptional experience for our teams. This is a fully on-site position based in Atlanta, with additional working locations in Charlotte, NC; Raleigh, NC; Richmond, VA; Dallas, TX; or Greensboro, NC. Teammates are expected to be in the office five days a week, collaborating closely in an environment where ideas thrive and solutions are built together.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and three to five years of experience or equivalent education and software engineering training or experience
  • In-depth knowledge in information systems and ability to identify, apply, and implement best practices
  • Understanding of key business processes and competitive strategies related to the IT function
  • Ability to plan and manage projects and solve complex problems by applying best practices
  • Ability to provide direction and mentor less experienced teammates. Ability to interpret and convey complex, difficult, or sensitive information.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Effective time management and prioritization.

Nice To Haves

  • Broader understanding of Workday functional areas (e.g., HCM) to better align with business needs.
  • Prior experience in a regulated or financial services environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and implement best practices in security management
  • 5+ years of hands-on Workday experience.
  • Strong understanding of Workday business processes for assigned functional area.
  • Familiarity with compliance and audit processes, preferably within a financial institution.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple business units and technical teams.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for Workday configuration - Payroll & Time/Absence processes.
  • Design, configure, test, and deploy Workday configuration changes.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations and processes.
  • Partner with HR and business teams to gather requirements and design solutions.
  • Identify and drive quality and efficiency improvement opportunities.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve Workday configuration-related issues.
  • Ensure that all changes comply with technology policies and requirements.
  • Identify, escalate, and remediate risks and comply will risk management standards.
  • Manage and implement Workday configuration changes, ensuring compliance with established policies and governance frameworks.
  • Partner with business and technology teams to evaluate project requirements and determine appropriate Workday modifications.
  • Support ongoing operations by troubleshooting and resolving issues in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with Workday functional and technical teams to ensure seamless integration of changes across modules and functions.
  • Participate in audits, control reviews, and risk assessments related to assigned functional area.
  • Provide guidance and best practices to business partners.
