About The Position

American Institute for Economic Research educates Americans on the value of personal freedom, free enterprise, property rights, limited government, and sound money. AIER’s ongoing scientific research demonstrates the importance of these principles in advancing peace, prosperity and human progress. The IT Intern will support the Information Technology team by assisting with documentation, infrastructure tracking, software and asset management, and internal IT projects. This role provides hands-on experience in IT operations, systems management, and organizational technology practices while offering exposure to a wide range of IT functions and initiatives. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, eager to learn, and interested in developing practical experience in information technology and systems administration.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree or certification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a related field
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, software, and networking concepts
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office or Google Workspace applications
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with IT inventory systems or ticketing platforms
  • Basic knowledge of network infrastructure and diagrams
  • Interest in cybersecurity, systems administration, or IT operations
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows environments and common business software

Responsibilities

  • Document IT processes, procedures, configurations, and workflows for future reference and operational consistency.
  • Maintain accurate records of hardware, software, and network infrastructure.
  • Assist in creating and updating internal IT documentation and manuals.
  • Work closely with the IT team to support ongoing technology projects and initiatives.
  • Participate in meetings, planning sessions, and project updates.
  • Provide administrative and technical support for IT operations as needed.
  • Research emerging IT trends, tools, and technologies.
  • Recommend improvements or efficiencies based on industry best practices.
  • Assist in evaluating software, hardware, and IT management solutions.
  • Document inventory and IT infrastructure
  • Maintain asset tracking records
  • Assist with equipment organization and lifecycle management
  • Track software installations and licensing compliance
  • Assist with software audits and renewal documentation
  • Help organize software inventory records
  • Create and update network diagrams
  • Develop executive-level technology overview diagrams
