The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB) Information Technology Services Division is announcing an exciting opportunity for an IT Data Management - Journey located in Olympia, WA. This position reports to the IT Operations Manager in the WSLCB's Information Technology Services Division (ITSD). The journey-level Database Administrator (DBA) is the technology professional responsible for all functions related to database development, storage, security, and retrieval within the WSLCB. This position works independently and proactively collaborates with members of the application support teams, infrastructure, product management, business subject matter experts and project teams. This journey-level DBA develops, installs, tests, troubleshoots, stabilizes, safeguards and continuously improves all WSLCB’s integrated data systems, which includes Microsoft SQL Server and other data management platforms, as required hosted in Azure and AWS cloud environments, as well as on-premise virtual environments. This position is critical to providing accurate, consistent, and efficient data to inform licensing, enforcement and tax collection responsibilities of the agency. The incumbent will create, monitor, maintain and document database installations, architecture, processing, balancing, and decommissioning. Perform typical system administrative activities such as database creation, backup, restore and issue resolution. Ensure high availability, security, and optimal performance by following established standards, procedures, and automation practices. Work includes building and executing SQL and cloud-native scripts to manage and modify data, collaborating with vendors and team members on performance and scalability improvements, and leading initiatives for physical data modeling and architecture design across hybrid infrastructures. Problems may be of an urgent and critical nature, requiring work to be done beyond scheduled working hours to bring systems back online. The DBA works collaboratively with numerous cross-functional teams. The incumbent must independently plan and execute the evaluation of new data initiatives, which include but are not limited to upgraded versions and integration with additional enterprise systems. Paramount to the mission of this position is the stewardship of data stored in agency systems, hosted both internally and externally, by providing data analysis and documentation for data migration efforts from various systems as well as safeguarding and securing that data. This position is required to independently apply journey level technical knowledge to evaluate and resolve complex tasks.
