About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Department Chair, the IT Consultant provides varying levels of direct support and training to the Department of Art & Design's staff, students, and faculty on information and creative technology-based systems. The incumbent supports lab and/or classroom needs, using available information technologies and resources; installs, repairs, updates, and maintains hardware, software, and peripherals, including virtual servers; configures, sets up, and maintains multi-platform operating systems, printers, projectors, computer labs, tablets, and communication networks; maintains Department equipment inventory and database. Monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots Apple and Windows devices for faculty, staff, students, and those used in computer labs/classrooms. Provides day-to-day technology support for departmental IT operations, including computer labs, classrooms, specialized technology equipment, and related systems. Responsible for maintaining an accurate inventory of the department's technology equipment. Communicates technology issues, recommends solutions, and assesses future technology needs to the department chair. Monitors, maintains, and troubleshoots Apple and Windows devices for faculty, staff, and students in the Art Galleries and IntersectLA. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and two years of relevant experience.
  • Knowledge of Apple and Windows operating systems, computer hardware and software troubleshooting, compatibility issues, system errors, classroom technology, computer labs, specialized audiovisual equipment, printers, scanners, and applicable campus wide and CSU systemwide technology, safety, security, standards, and policies.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve technology problems.
  • Ability to provide clear technical support and training to faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to install, maintain, integrate, and troubleshoot specialized equipment.
  • Ability to respond to classroom technology support requests.
  • Ability to communicate effective solutions to diverse users.
  • Knowledge of technology inventory practices, asset security, equipment checkout procedures, data entry, procurement processes, departmental purchasing requirements, cost-effective technology options, and reporting procedures for computers, software, accessories, and related equipment.
  • Ability to maintain accurate equipment records.
  • Ability to train and guide student assistants.
  • Ability to communicate technology issues and future needs.
  • Ability to research and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Ability to coordinate departmental technology purchases.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with college and campus IT resources.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a computer-related field or experience with computer technology is highly desired.
