About The Position

The Frontline Services Branch is responsible for planning and delivering frontline technical support through various channels to all corporate IT users. This includes first level technical support via the ITS Service Desk call centre, Site Support, walk in IT Service Centres and an online portal. The branch also handles the configuration, customization, delivery, set-up, repair, testing and/or removal of desktops, laptops, multi function printers and mobile/telecommunications/e-Collaboration infrastructure and equipment. Furthermore, it manages asset management and administration of all mobile communication devices and life cycling of desktops and laptops, mobile solutions, configurations, customized Mobile Operating system builds, deployment of new or updated software to client desktops and laptops, ordering services for computer hardware, software and peripherals, and processing client requests for mobile and telecommunications devices and services. As part of the Information Technology Services computer lifecycle program function, the IT Buyer & Asset Specialist's responsibilities include the procurement and disposal of computing devices, software and services; tracking computing asset inventory information; and performing technical assessments of end-user device configurations.

Requirements

  • Completion of 2 year community college in computer science or other related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience, with a minimum of 1 year in a purchasing and/or IT environment
  • Knowledge of computing devices and software licensing agreements
  • Knowledge of the public tendering system and regulations relating to administration
  • Knowledge of current public sector procurement principles, theories, techniques and procedures
  • Knowledge of computerized purchasing system and ability to process orders online
  • Knowledge of computerized administrative systems such as MS Word, WordPerfect, Excel and ITSM tools
  • Knowledge of financial software packages and processes (i.e. SAP)
  • Knowledge of tender and contract documents, service and consultant agreements
  • Extensive knowledge of microcomputer software and hardware
  • Ability to exercise discretion
  • Ability to perform research to find solutions to special needs
  • Ability to reconcile financial statements
  • Ability to develop and maintain financial tools in MS Excel for reporting financial information
  • Ability to maintain accuracy and integrity of data
  • Ability to evaluate customer requirements and understand product specifications
  • Ability to assess data and identify process improvements
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all work-related contacts
  • English oral, reading, writing language requirement
  • Successful completion of a Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check (Level 2) with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction
