About The Position

Alaska Rural Staffing Services partners with a variety of rural healthcare organizations across Alaska, including hospitals, clinics, Tribal health organizations, and more, to find experienced IT and HIM leaders. These leaders are crucial for understanding and addressing the unique needs of rural, remote, and frontier healthcare environments. The roles involve ensuring reliable technology systems, protecting patient information, maintaining accurate records, and supporting telehealth services to enable safe, efficient, and coordinated care across vast geographic distances. The ideal candidates are practical, responsive, collaborative, and can communicate complex technical and regulatory information effectively to diverse stakeholders. This is more than just an IT or HIM role; it's about leveraging technology and information to improve healthcare access and quality in challenging environments.

Requirements

Progressive experience in healthcare IT, information systems, HIM, medical records, clinical informatics, privacy, cybersecurity, data management, or technology operations
Previous leadership experience as a director, manager, supervisor, CIO, privacy officer, security leader, or comparable professional
Experience with healthcare systems, EHR platforms, networks, infrastructure, applications, telehealth, data, privacy, or records management
Knowledge of HIPAA, information security, health information regulations, documentation standards, and data governance
Experience managing projects, vendors, contracts, budgets, implementations, integrations, or system upgrades
Experience supporting cybersecurity, disaster recovery, backup, access management, or business continuity
Strong communication, problem-solving, project-management, and team-development skills
Experience working with clinical, operational, financial, compliance, and executive leaders
The ability to translate technical or regulatory information into practical guidance for employees and leaders
Experience supporting multi-site organizations or services spread across significant geographic distances may be valuable
Experience with rural hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, FQHCs, Tribal health organizations, regional health corporations, long-term care providers, or community healthcare organizations
Experience working with Alaska Native communities, Tribal health organizations, Indian Health Service programs, or tribally operated systems may be highly valued for some opportunities
Relevant education, certification, or technical credentials based on the position
A practical, responsive, collaborative, culturally respectful, and service-focused leadership style

Responsibilities

Providing strategic and operational leadership for IT, HIM, information systems, privacy, security, or clinical informatics
Supporting reliable technology, infrastructure, networks, devices, connectivity, and applications
Leading EHR optimization, implementation, upgrades, integrations, and user support
Strengthening cybersecurity, access controls, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity
Protecting patient information and supporting HIPAA, privacy, and security compliance
Overseeing medical records, document integrity, release of information, retention, and legal health record standards
Supporting accurate data, reporting, analytics, master data, and information governance
Managing vendors, contracts, budgets, projects, equipment, and long-term technology planning
Leading help desk, systems administration, applications, network, infrastructure, HIM, or technical support teams
Supporting telehealth, remote consultation, and communication between village clinics, regional hospitals, and specialty providers
Developing policies, procedures, security standards, workflows, and internal controls
Supporting privacy, security, coding, documentation, audit, and regulatory readiness
Collaborating with clinical, operational, finance, revenue cycle, compliance, and executive leaders
Training employees and helping teams adopt new systems, security practices, and workflows
Improving the connection between technology, information, clinical care, and organizational performance
Supporting technology and information services across multiple facilities, clinics, or communities
Managing connectivity and system challenges in remote or geographically isolated locations
Helping maintain essential systems during weather events, transportation disruptions, equipment failures, or other emergencies
Supporting infrastructure modernization, cloud migration, system replacement, or organizational growth
Helping ensure patient information remains secure, accurate, accessible, and available when care teams need it
