About The Position

The IT Administrator is responsible for establishing, developing, and managing the City’s IT function. This role provides hands-on technical support for day-to-day operations, oversees network infrastructure, and serves as the City’s primary point of contact for the third-party IT support provider. The position will lead the creation of IT policies, processes, and long-term technology planning to support City operations and future growth.

Requirements

  • Strong technical knowledge across hardware, operating systems, Microsoft 365 administration, cloud services, networking (TCP/IP, switches, routers, firewalls, Wi-Fi), cybersecurity, server environments, backups, patching, and overall system maintenance.
  • Skilled in IT asset management, software licensing, equipment lifecycle planning, help desk operations, ticketing systems, and vendor/contract oversight to support efficient IT service delivery.
  • Ability to build IT processes and standards, work independently in a growing environment, analyze problems and implement improvements, adapt to changing technologies, and maintain confidentiality while safeguarding sensitive information.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with departments, deliver exceptional customer service to users at all technical levels, and lift, install, and maintain IT equipment as needed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professionally effective relationships with external public/vendors, internal management and non-management employees, and City and other government officials.
  • Ability to develop, implement, and administer goals, objectives, and procedures for providing effective and efficient services for the City.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, as well as strong time and task management skills.
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of hands-on IT experience.

Responsibilities

  • Establish IT procedures, standards, and support processes.
  • Develop and implement IT policies, security practices, and technology plans.
  • Set up workstations, devices, and user accounts.
  • Assist in managing the ticketing process and resolve issues promptly.
  • Provide user training and support for City systems
  • Manage on-premise and cloud network/server environments.
  • Monitor network performance, security, and uptime.
  • Oversee backups, cybersecurity, and patching.
  • Maintain switches, routers, firewalls, and Wi-Fi.
  • Assist with infrastructure upgrades.
  • Serve as primary contact for third-party IT provider.
  • Coordinate responsibilities between vendor and City staff.
  • Lead or support technology projects and system upgrades
  • Implement and manage a demilitarized zone (DMZ) between enterprise and SCADA networks
  • Ensure SCADA systems are not directly accessible from the enterprise network or internet
  • Research and recommend new technologies to improve City operations
  • Partner with departments to assess needs and plan long-term solutions
  • Manage IT inventory, procurement, and software licensing
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
