About The Position

The Irrigation Technician III, under the general supervision of the Parks Foreman, maintains, inspects, and operates City irrigation systems and supports special events. This role involves repairing and maintaining all irrigation systems managed by the Parks department, inspecting assigned irrigation systems, backflow devices, and control boxes. The position also collaborates with the Parks Maintenance Division Director and Parks Planner to update irrigation specifications for city projects, estimates costs, purchases supplies, and maintains an inventory of repair parts. Additionally, the Irrigation Technician III supervises temporary and permanent employees during irrigation projects, coordinates with other city departments, supports special events, works with contractors on repairs and upgrades, provides input for irrigation system mapping, and offers irrigation design and supervision for installations and modifications. The role requires adherence to City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, and may involve other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of experience with installation and maintenance of irrigation systems, including multi-strand and 2 wire/decoder systems
  • Valid driver’s license
  • TCEQ Licensed Landscape Irrigator

Responsibilities

  • Repairs and maintains all irrigation systems managed by the Parks department
  • Inspects of all assigned irrigation systems, backflow devices, and control boxes
  • Works with Parks Maintenance Division Director and Parks Planner to write and update irrigation specifications for related city projects
  • Estimates costs and purchases supplies needed to accomplish projects, ensuring purchasing procedures are followed
  • Maintains inventory of needed repair parts
  • Supervises temporary and permanent employees during irrigation projects
  • Coordinates with other city departments with inspection, maintenance, and replacement of system backflow devices
  • Supports special events, both City and private, and helps with the set up and take down of the portable stage
  • Works with contractors to perform repairs & upgrades to existing systems and new installs
  • Provides input to assist Parks and GIS department in accurate mapping of irrigation systems
  • Provides irrigation design and supervises installation and system modifications as assigned
  • Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
  • Performs other duties as assigned
