About The Position

Turner Industries Group is seeking an experienced Ironworker for turnaround work in Kingsport, Tennessee. The Ironworker works as a member of a crew to raise, place, and unite girders, columns, and other structural-steel members to form completed structures and frameworks. This is a non-exempt role that reports to the Foreman. Duties are assigned according to specific procedures, and work is checked frequently.

Requirements

High school education or equivalent.
One to four years of experience in the specified skill, depending on mechanic level.
Knowledge of ironworker tools and how to use them.
Rigging skills, including wire rope slings.
Some job sites may require NCCER certification.
Complete a post-offer drug and alcohol screen and physical evaluation, and sign acceptance of the company's Drug, Alcohol and Contraband Policy.
Comply with company and client job-site safety requirements.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace.

Responsibilities

Offload deliveries of structural material from the fabricator.
Set up and break down hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members.
Fasten steel members to the cable of a hoist.
Signal the worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel members.
Guide a member, or ride on it, to guide it into position.
Pull or pry steel members into approximate position while supported by hoisting equipment.
Force members into final position.
Align holes in a member with corresponding holes in a previously placed member.
Verify the vertical and horizontal alignment of members.
Bolt aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted.
Cut steel members to make alterations.
Perform additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.
