About The Position

Assist skilled craftspersons by performing supportive duties as directed and working under immediate supervision. The level and degree of responsibilities and requirements vary depending on months of experience and assigned job step. The role involves learning ironworking tasks and following safety and project rules.

Requirements

• May require a high school diploma or equivalent and previous years of experience in the field or a related area.
• Possess knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position.
• Understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions, and communicate effectively with management and supervision.
• Have field experience in the chosen craft discipline.
• Know how to use hand tools, power tools, and layout tools safely and efficiently.
• Be able to meet all physical requirements.
• Have all required tools.
• Be able to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces, potentially exceeding 200 feet.
• Be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Be able to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required by workload.

Responsibilities

• Learn to read specifications or blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, or sizes of required materials.
• Assist skilled craftspeople with fabricating metal parts, including steel frames, columns, beams, and girders, according to blueprints or supervisors’ instructions.
• Assist with unloading and positioning prefabricated steel units for hoisting; hoist steel beams, girders, or columns into place using cranes or by signaling hoisting equipment operators.
• Learn to verify the vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels.
• Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment.
• Assemble hoisting equipment or rigging, such as cables, pulleys, or hooks, to move heavy equipment or materials.
• Observe and comply with safety and project rules.
• Perform other duties as required.
