About The Position

Assist skilled craftsperson(s) by performing supportive duties as directed and work under immediate supervision. The level and degree of job responsibilities and requirements vary depending on months of experience and assigned job step. This is an entry-level position supporting ironworkers on a construction or industrial site.

Requirements

• Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing, a fit-for-duty medical examination, and a background check.
• Ability to work irregular hours, weekends, overtime, and holidays as required.
• Ability to move items weighing up to 50 pounds across a construction or industrial site, as required.

Responsibilities

• Learn to read specifications or blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, or sizes of required materials.
• Assist skilled craftspeople in fabricating metal parts, such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders, according to blueprints or supervisor instructions.
• Assist with unloading and positioning prefabricated steel units for hoisting; hoist steel beams, girders, or columns into place using cranes, or signal hoisting equipment operators to lift and position structural steel members.
• Learn to verify vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels.
• Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment.
• Assemble hoisting equipment or rigging, such as cables, pulleys, or hooks, to move heavy equipment or materials.
• Observe and comply with all safety and project rules.
• Perform other duties as required.
