About The Position

Assist skilled craftspersons by performing supportive duties as directed under immediate supervision. The level and degree of responsibilities and requirements vary depending on months of experience and assigned job step. The role involves learning and assisting with structural steel fabrication, positioning and hoisting steel members, checking alignment, cutting, bending or welding steel, and assembling rigging equipment.

Requirements

• May require a high school diploma or equivalent, with previous years of experience in the field or a related area.
• Must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position.
• Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management and supervision.
• Field experience in the chosen craft discipline.
• Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools, and layout tools.
• Able to meet all physical requirements.
• Must have all required tools.
• Able to climb and work at heights and in confined spaces, which may exceed 200 feet.
• Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Able to work overtime, nights, and weekends as required by workload.

Responsibilities

• Learn to read specifications or blueprints to determine the locations, quantities, or sizes of materials required.
• Assist skilled craftsmen in fabricating metal parts, such as steel frames, columns, beams, or girders, according to blueprints or supervisor instructions.
• Assist with unloading and positioning prefabricated steel units for hoisting.
• Hoist steel beams, girders, or columns into place using cranes, or signal hoisting equipment operators to lift and position structural steel members.
• Learn to verify the vertical and horizontal alignment of structural steel members using plumb bobs, laser equipment, transits, or levels.
• Cut, bend, or weld steel pieces using metal shears, torches, or welding equipment.
• Assemble hoisting equipment or rigging, such as cables, pulleys, or hooks, to move heavy equipment or materials.
• Observe and comply with all safety and project rules.
• Perform other duties as required.
