About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking an IR Technologist I-Inpatient to join their Imaging Sciences-Angio department. This is a full-time, regular position with a scheduled weekly hour of 40. The role is responsible for setting up interventional radiology (IR) rooms specific to the study being conducted and utilizes customer service skills while interacting with patients and their families to create a caring atmosphere during their visit. The position is part of a career ladder with three bands, differentiated by independence, supervision, certification, ability to precept, and leadership in meeting departmental goals. Band One (I) is for non-certified technologists new to the IR Department requiring training and supervision. Band Two (II) is for certified technologists with minimal supervision, responsible for setup, patient care, and administrative tasks, with additional duties like equipment evaluations and committee work. Band Three (III) is for advanced technologists who independently manage procedures, patient care, administrative tasks, and act as primary preceptors, subject matter experts, and super-users for new equipment. Band Three Technologists are proficient in all IR areas and may rotate through the Tech of the Day role, coordinating assignments and ensuring cohesion with nursing and medical staff. Select Band Three Technologists may be designated as Leads to support operations and assist supervisors. Requirements

  • Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Maintains current NYS licensure and ARRT certification with CE credits as required.
  • One year experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Band Two requires a minimum of 18 months of progressively responsible professional work experience as an IR specialist in a clinical or hospital environment with at least 6 months dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department, certification in Vascular Interventional Radiology, and capable of performing all IR competencies including but not limited to: TIPS, Angiography, Ablations, Pediatrics, Neuro IR, CT Guided Procedures.
  • Band Three requires a minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible professional work experience as an IR specialist in a clinical or hospital environment with 1 year dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for setting up interventional radiology (IR) rooms specific to the study being conducted.
  • Utilizes customer service skills while interacting with patients as well as family members to create a caring atmosphere during their visit.
  • Prepares room and patient specific to the exam to be performed.
  • Arranges equipment, trays, supplies, position patients, and determine proper exposure factors in order to produce a high quality image.
  • Utilizes electronic patient information systems to verify patient name, date, appropriate exam, and any special exam specific comments from the provider.
  • Understands and practices the Dual patient identifier procedure.
  • Observes each patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to meet his or her age-specific needs.
  • Transfers patients to and from imaging tables using assistive devices such as ARJO lift, transferboards, hover mats.
  • Maintains accurate patient record keeping by properly identifying images and assuring images are sent to the PACS system correctly.
  • Completes and bills for studies accurately.
