About The Position

The IoT Engineer II designs, develops, tests, deploys, and supports software that connects retail devices and edge systems to secure, scalable cloud services. The role spans device integrations, telemetry and messaging, backend APIs, operational tooling, and web experiences for engineering and support teams. The engineer independently delivers well-defined features, contributes to solution design, and improves the reliability and supportability of connected-device platforms. This position develops IoT applications and services, Python-based APIs and microservices, event-driven integrations, and React dashboards. It also involves deploying and operating containerized services in Kubernetes and public cloud environments, applying secure engineering practices, building observability, and participating in incident response and continuous improvement. The engineer collaborates with product, store operations, cybersecurity, networking, data engineering, support, and vendor teams. The position is onsite four days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain IoT applications and services using Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript, with unit, integration, and automated test coverage.
  • Build software for Linux-based edge devices that communicate with sensors, controllers, peripherals, gateways, and connected retail equipment.
  • Develop Python-based APIs and microservices for device onboarding, configuration, telemetry ingestion, command and control, and operational workflows.
  • Implement event-driven integrations using MQTT, Kafka, or comparable messaging technologies, with suitable retry, ordering, durability, and failure-handling patterns.
  • Create React dashboards and administrative tools for fleet visibility, device health monitoring, diagnostics, and support workflows.
  • Deploy and operate containerized services using Kubernetes and public cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS.
  • Apply secure engineering practices, including authentication, authorization, certificate or token management, secrets handling, dependency management, and protection of device-to-cloud communications.
  • Build observability using structured logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, and actionable alerts; participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Contribute to requirements analysis, technical design, prototypes, code reviews, release readiness, documentation, and continuous improvement of engineering standards.
  • Partner with product, store operations, cybersecurity, networking, data engineering, support, and vendor teams to deliver reliable connected solutions.
