About The Position

The Investment Analyst will support Liberty University’s Chief Investment Officer and the investment team in the management of Liberty’s endowment assets. The analyst will develop generalist skills across multiple asset classes including Public Equity, Fixed Income, Real Estate and Alternatives, by supporting multiple portfolio management activities such as investment research, investment reporting, performance measurement, special projects and analyses. The Analyst will assist senior leadership to prudently monitor LU’s Investable Pools for Biblically Responsible Investing (BRI) in accordance with the approved BRI framework and promote the intentional selection of investment managers who meet the financial objectives within the IPS and materially align with LU’s Christian mission. This position will require travel for onsite diligence, industry conferences, and relationship development. The Analyst position is an onsite Lynchburg position. Therefore, the position is expected to professionally and actively participate in the Lynchburg community and LU’s on-campus activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, business related, mathematics or computer science.
  • Minimum 6-8 months experience in Investment office (internship or employment) setting with portfolio management and assets
  • Some level of knowledge in portfolio management, various asset classes
  • Have the aspiration to complete CFA
  • Intellectual capacity for learning multi-disciplinary subjects
  • Attention to details and well-organized in required tasks
  • Resourceful and self-motivated, can complete projects without too much supervision
  • Ability to work independently and work in a team environment
  • Ability to incorporate qualitative and quantitative analyses in the evaluation of investment strategies, investment processes, and investment performance.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct qualitative research and quantitative analysis supporting the investment program.
  • Assist in onboarding and maintaining custodian system, portfolio management software and data management systems keeping investment record accurate and up to date.
  • Attend and participate in fund manager meetings and record meeting notes, with increasing ability to ask thoughtful questions.
  • Assist senior team members in sourcing and evaluating prospect fund managers, including downloading data room and storing/updating data properly, preparing diligence notes, and learning to analyze investment strategy, process, organization, portfolio positions, competitive landscape and track record.
  • Assist in the preparation of presentation materials for stakeholders such as Investment Committee
  • Assist in onboarding and maintaining custodian system, portfolio management software and data management systems.
  • Utilize multiple sources to aggregate portfolio data an index data to design portfolio exposure report
  • Assist senior team members in researching industry/sectors to form investment thesis
  • Work closely with custodian bank in month end closing and reconciliation, and prepare customized performance report for the investment team
  • Assist in monitoring existing investments including categorizing/storing/reviewing quarterly letters, manager correspondence and support the senior team in preparing quarterly performance analysis
  • Prepare subscription documents and coordinate LPA reviews
  • Monitor capital calls and distributions and provide monthly cash flow update
  • Contribute to ad-hoc projects related to improving investment process, portfolio monitoring and operations.
  • Work effectively with other university departments such as the accounting and legal office.
  • Assist with information requests from financial auditors, legislative and regulatory agencies, and others.
