About The Position

Weiss Asset Management LP is seeking an Investment Analyst in Boston, MA. This in-person role is responsible for analyzing investment opportunities, with a strong focus on mergers and acquisitions (M&A). The analyst will research new investment strategies, interpret and analyze complex financial data, and perform economic and financial analysis of companies involved in M&A activities. This includes utilizing complex statistical and mathematical techniques and modeling, analyzing financial documents and reports, and assessing the probability and timing of potential mergers. The role also involves developing analytical tools for M&A opportunities using financial statistical software, employing advanced statistical, financial, and numerical techniques for scenario evaluation, and building and maintaining relationships with counterparties to identify new M&A investment opportunities. The analyst will use advanced statistical analytics to support securities trading, implement firm-wide M&A strategies, and contribute to financial strategy development. Additionally, advanced simulation modeling techniques will be used to develop investment theses related to M&A activities, and econometric time series statistical techniques will be applied to forecast economic trends impacting M&A. The position requires developing and validating detailed financial models, including running downside scenarios and reviewing financial projections, as well as clearly communicating investment advantages and risk scenarios. A rigorous analysis of financial covenants and corporate structures, incorporating credit indentures and ratings agency reports, is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent foreign degree) in Finance, Mathematics, Statistics or a closely related field.
  • Experience with financial modeling techniques including discounted cash flow analysis, macroeconomic forecasting, and corporate finance valuation methods.
  • Experience with probability theory, statistical inference, linear regression, and stochastic processes applied to statistical models of investment.
  • Experience with M&A probability and timing tools using statistical software including Python and R, as well as econometric techniques for forecasting.
  • Experience with derivatives pricing and hedging strategies applied to equity and equity-linked securities in connection with investment strategies using Monte Carlo simulation and Black-Scholes option pricing models.
