About The Position

The Investment Accounting Intern works with the Investment Accounting team to assist with daily, monthly, and quarterly accounting activities, including the preparation of reconciliations, journal entries, financial analysis, and internal and external reporting for the Company’s investments. This role provides hands-on training and project experience related to investment accounting, offering exposure to insurance and investment accounting methodologies across a range of asset classes, including fixed income securities, alternative instruments, private placements, private loans, mortgage loans, and derivatives for both GAAP and STAT accounting. Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or another related field of study.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to successfully handle pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and successfully with employees, customers, and other outside third parties.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong attention to numeric and other detail; ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply them to practical situations.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and posts journal entries and supporting documentation.
  • Assists with monthly and quarterly residential, commercial, and agricultural loan accounting and reporting, including journal entry activity and reconciliations.
  • Assists with the review of private loans, including calculation and booking of allowances.
  • Completes and distributes quarterly STAT and GAAP investment disclosures.
  • Assists in providing information, reports, and analysis for internal and external auditors and tax specialists.
  • Contributes to automation and continuous improvement projects.
  • Collaborates with fellow interns across departments on a strategic, cross-functional initiative that drives meaningful business impact.
  • Performs ad hoc reporting and other related duties as assigned.
