About The Position

Join a team dedicated to protecting the integrity, security, and reputation of Alberta’s registry systems. As an Investigator with the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), you will play a critical role in uncovering Fraud, supporting law enforcement partners, and ensuring the integrity and security of critical registry information across the province.

Requirements

  • University graduation in a related field such as Criminology, Police Studies, Psychology or Law, plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
  • Minimum two years of law enforcement experience (Level 1).
  • Extensive knowledge of investigative techniques, the Criminal Code of Canada, case law, and relevant provincial legislation.
  • Experience conducting investigations, preparing court documentation, and presenting evidence.
  • Ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Appointment as, or eligibility to become, an Alberta Peace Officer under the Peace Officer Act.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with regulatory, compliance, fraud, or intelligence-based investigations.
  • Knowledge of privacy legislation, witness protection programs, and investigative information systems and databases.
  • Experience drafting and executing judicial authorizations, including Production Orders, search warrants and related court orders.
  • Experience conducting intelligence analysis and producing analytical products to support investigations.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting criminal, regulatory, and fraud-related investigations from intake through to resolution, including evidence gathering, witness interviews and suspects interviews.
  • Preparing charge reports, affidavits, court-certified documents, and other investigative materials to support prosecutions and enforcement actions.
  • Providing expert evidence and testimony in court proceedings and supporting Crown Prosecutors throughout the legal process.
  • Collaborating with law enforcement agencies, Crown Prosecutors, government partners, and registry stakeholders to support investigations and information-sharing activities.
  • Analyzing intelligence, investigative information, and data trends to identify risks, support enforcement activities, and inform recommendations.
  • Collaborating with law enforcement agencies, government partners, registry stakeholders, and regulatory bodies to advance investigations and resolve complex issues.
  • Delivering training, mentorship, and technical guidance to investigators and stakeholders on investigative processes, systems, and legislative requirements.
  • Supporting specialized programs involving covert identity services, witness protection initiatives, and sensitive information management.
  • Contributing to policy development, procedural improvements, and operational efficiencies that enhance investigative effectiveness.
