Investigative Environment Correspondent

The GuardianNew York, NY
1d$102,000 - $109,000Hybrid

About The Position

The Guardian is seeking an ambitious and rigorous investigative reporter to focus on environmental issues in the US and abroad, with a focus on environmental justice, pollution and toxic substances. America is a nation where environmental inequalities are rampant, and where enforcement of violations is often underfunded or deprioritized. It also exports environmental problems, sending hazardous waste abroad for other nations and communities to deal with. Who bears the brunt of the nation’s pollution at home and across borders, and can polluters be held accountable? The ideal candidate will have a track record of investigative pieces that expose the impacts of pollution in the US and abroad. They will have the skills to find stories in complex datasets and make them not only intelligible but compelling for a general readership. They will think innovatively about how the Guardian can drive the news in this space, for instance by commissioning or collaborating on pollution testing. And they will keep the focus on ordinary people who are affected.
