About The Position

Performs a variety of administrative/paraprofessional/technical responsibilities, frequently confidential or complex in nature, in direct support of the Criminal Investigations Unit and the Police Department.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or GED plus one year of experience.
  • Texas Class C driver’s license
  • TCIC/NCIC computer certificate or ability to obtain within timeframe set by department.
  • Must remain calm and efficiently follow procedure and process in emergency situations
  • Successfully pass a Drug & Alcohol and a physical examination and a Background Check.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts Class A and B misdemeanor investigations to completion (telephone contact or personal contact at PD only; interviews complainants, witnesses, involved parties and suspects).
  • Takes only initial statements on felony investigations.
  • Assists detectives with follow up, phone calls, etc.
  • Assists detectives with photographing and processing of evidence at crime scene (always accompanied in the field by a peace officer).
  • Maintains CIU crime scene and interview supplies.
  • Submits cases to municipal court and district attorney’s offices for disposition.
  • Assists with pawn shop details, photo line-ups and photographing.
  • Performs related duties as required.
  • Responds regularly and promptly to work.
  • Serves as Crime Victims liaison to the district attorney’s office.
  • Reviews case files and extracts case file information useful to the investigation.
