About The Position

We have an opening for an Investigative Specialist in the Security Incident Reporting Office (SIRO). You will conduct investigations of alleged violations concerning the protection of classified or sensitive matter and will interact with all levels of LLNL personnel from a variety of disciplinary fields. This position is in the Information and Personnel Security Division within the Security Organization (SO).

Requirements

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top-Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a security or related field, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Experience supporting analytical or investigative work, including reviewing data, comparing information, identifying patterns or gaps, evaluating evidence, and preparing reports.
  • Analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills necessary to independently recommend appropriate actions and develop solutions.
  • Experience exercising a high degree of discretion, sound judgment, and tact in handling sensitive issues.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to effectively present, direct, negotiate, influence and coordinate with all levels of management and staff internal and external to LLNL.
  • Proficient with personal computers and associated software, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.

Nice To Haves

  • Experienced in the use of LLNL’s Issue Tracking System (ITS).
  • Accreditation in the use of the DOE Safeguards and Security Information Management System (SSIMS).
  • Completion of the DOE Conduct of Inquiries and/or DOE Legal Aspects of Inquiries training.
  • Knowledge of government orders and regulations, such as, incidents of security concern, classified matter protection control, physical security, and/or protective force.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate procedures and apply established policies to identify violations involving classified or sensitive matter.
  • Respond to potential security incidents reported by employees or other individuals, which may involve potential violations of DOE directives.
  • Conduct follow-up inquiries and prepare investigative reports to document investigative activities, findings, and recommendations for other team members and/or Security management.
  • Support or conduct investigations under the guidance of a senior investigator.
  • Track incidents of security concern through closure, using and maintaining databases.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
