About The Position

Under administrative direction, the purpose of the position is to perform complex investigative work in identifying, locating and profiling of suspects, businesses or witnesses associated with criminal or other assigned investigations. Employees in this classification perform specialized technical and administrative work. Position is responsible for researching, investigating, documenting, and classifying witnesses, suspects and victims, and their activities related to criminal investigations. The classification is distinguished from that of Investigative Aide I by the level of complexity and skill required in research and investigative activities utilizing state-of-the-art principles, technologies and investigative techniques. Performs related work as directed.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of previous experience and/or training in crime and/or law enforcement investigation principles, practices, and techniques to include conducting background checks and personal interviews.
  • Must successfully complete the NCIC Limited Terminal Access Operator certification within six (6) months of employment.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Such experience must be clearly documented for consideration.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in analysis, intelligence or police aide work in a criminal justice or similar law enforcement environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Locates and interviews suspects, witnesses, associates, informants, victims and victim family members through utilization of various investigative strategies and techniques.
  • Assists in the preparation of court ordered applications for Title III wire intercepts, pen registers and search warrants.
  • Performs investigative analysis of the same.
  • Assists in the preparation of Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force proposals; provides investigative support.
  • Provides operational and tactical support utilizing available technologies to ensure officer safety and convert investigation security.
  • Conducts criminal histories on suspects and witnesses involved in assigned cases.
  • Conducts complex and skilled research using a variety of state-of-the-art principles, technologies, and investigative techniques.
  • Conducts preliminary research for other unit personnel to assist in investigative activities outside the scope of responsibility.
  • Prepares various materials for case support, State Attorney's prosecution and related court/judicial presentation purposes.
  • Investigates and analyzes case information and data, and submits compiled investigation data to the appropriate entities for review and prosecution.
  • Plans, prepares and provides follow-up strategies concerning on-going investigation for assigned cases.
  • Attends various meetings to discuss strategies and progress of investigations under charge, and to receive directions and assignments.
  • Maintains and updates investigation and research data for the purpose of ensuring case files remain current while active and under investigation.
  • Responds to law enforcement and departmental agency inquiries concerning investigation data, findings and identification; provides direction and information accordingly.
  • Attends and testifies at depositions, trials or other court functions as required.
  • Generates and develops reports, records, and graphic media concerning investigation and case activities under charge.
  • Acts as liaison with other departments, law enforcement agencies, governmental entities, and other agencies concerning investigation activities under charge.
  • Performs related duties as directed.
