About The Position

The Inventory Control Specialist I works under general supervision to monitor inventory information accuracy and maintain inventory system quantities and costs. The role verifies inventory through physical counts and computer research, updates records, and investigates and corrects discrepancies. The position has no supervisory responsibilities and may include other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Strong data-entry skills.
• Ability to read and communicate verbally and in writing.
• Working knowledge of material acquisition and inventory processes.
• Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions using common-sense understanding.
• Basic mathematical skills.
• Ability to compose effective and efficient reports.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and an enterprise resource planning (ERP) program.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds frequently and, on occasion, up to 80 pounds.
• May be required to perform tasks involving climbing, lifting, pushing, or kneeling.

Responsibilities

• Compile data from records, shipping and receiving documents, requisitions, contracts, and accounting reports.
• Perform scheduled cycle counts and verify accuracy by comparing physical counts with computer quantities.
• Research discrepancies between physical counts and computer quantities and make appropriate system corrections.
• Assign SKU numbers while maintaining SKU logic, and maintain or update SKU files, including removing discontinued or changed SKUs.
• Create and review management reports and follow up on discrepancies such as negative on-hand quantities and out-of-stock items.
• Observe safety procedures and practices, attend periodic safety meetings as required, and potentially recommend safety improvements.
