About The Position

Protecting People.” We are seeking an Inventory Analyst Intern to partner with our experienced financial services team in this environmentally focused industry. An Inventory Analyst Intern at Smith and Loveless will work with assigned company employees to maintain accurate inventory records and accountability for materials, components, work-in-process (WIP), and finished goods throughout the facility. This position tracks location, quantity, and movement of inventory stored in warehouses, production areas, and outdoor storage yards. The role works closely with Production, Purchasing, Shipping, Receiving, and Warehouse personnel to ensure inventory accuracy and support efficient manufacturing operations. This is a PAID internship for a local Kansas City college student available to work 16+ hrs/wk minimum Monday through Friday. Internship will NOT provide college credit. Work schedule will be determined at the beginning of the internship. Must be currently enrolled in a Business, Finance, Supply Chain Management, or relative degree program.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Business, Finance, or Supply Chain Management or related degree from an accredited school.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and inventory management software.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate effectively across departments.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior inventory control, warehouse, or manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP and inventory management systems; Epicor Kinetic and/or Avante is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate inventory records within the ERP/MRP system.
  • Track and monitor the location of all manufactured parts, assemblies, and materials throughout the facility and storage yard.
  • Conduct cycle counts and physical inventory audits.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.
  • Ensure proper identification, labeling, and storage of materials.
  • Coordinate inventory transfers between warehouses, production areas, and yard locations.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages, overages, or obsolete materials.
  • Assists with maintaining yard inventory maps and storage location records.
  • Generate inventory reports and provide inventory status updates to management.
  • Assist with annual physical inventory counts.
  • Ensure compliance with company inventory control procedures and safety requirements.
  • Other accounting duties as assigned within the Financial Services division.
  • Keep work area neat and clean.
