About The Position

As the Invasive Species Coordinator for Ducks Unlimited Canada (DUC) in Ontario, you will play a critical role in advancing collaborative, conservation-focused invasive species management. Your work will support the implementation of the Ontario Phragmites Action Program (OPA), build partnerships across sectors, and help develop innovative approaches to invasive species control that benefit wetland ecosystems and biodiversity. You will be part of a passionate team working to protect nature through science, stewardship, and regional coordination.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of direct experience in invasive species management, environmental stewardship, or related conservation programming, with demonstrated leadership in project delivery and stakeholder engagement.
  • College diploma in Environmental Science, Ecology, Land Management, Forestry, Geography, or a related discipline is required.
  • Valid Class G driver’s license.
  • Basic GIS experience and comfort with mapping tools.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills, with experience working independently and as part of collaborative teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience working with rural landowners, stewardship groups, or agricultural partners.
  • Knowledge of wetland and aquatic ecosystems in Ontario.
  • Some fieldwork and travel within the province will be required.

Nice To Haves

  • University degree in a related field
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities and/or training in Indigenous cultural awareness
  • Familiarity with ESRI products for land or species management
  • Basic Operations Drone Certificate
  • Phragmites or Aquatic Pesticide Exterminator License
  • Pleasure Craft Operator's License
  • Experience with driving, launching and trailering boats. or other field equipment
  • Wilderness First Aid or other field safety certifications
  • Knowledge of Species at Risk, waterfowl habitat, or agronomy

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and implement invasive species management projects across Ontario, with a focus on Eastern Ontario and DUC priority areas.
  • Provide support to the Ontario Phragmites Action Program, including planning, tracking deliverables, and reporting in alignment with funding agreements.
  • Engage stakeholders, Indigenous communities, landowners, and partners to build and support regional working groups and promote best practices.
  • Contribute to innovative solutions in invasive species monitoring and control, including GIS mapping, drone applications, genetic testing, and biocontrol.
  • Assist in public outreach, community engagement events, and the development of education and communication materials.
  • Support proposal writing, reporting, and fundraising initiatives to grow the program’s impact.
  • Represent DUC in collaborative initiatives and external working groups, acting as a regional liaison and advocate for invasive species issues.
  • Maintain strong data management practices and contribute to internal reporting and performance metrics.
