About The Position

This position is for an Intramural Sports Coordinator within the Recreational Sports Department at California State University (CSU), Chico. The role involves the administration and coordination of collegiate intramural sports, esports/gaming, and youth programs. The incumbent will also be responsible for assessing, maintaining, and developing the Intramural Sports program. During the summer, the position will coordinate and operate the department's summer recreational programs for children. The role requires interaction with college-age students and youth, and involves working regularly at night, with occasional early morning and weekend hours as needed. The position is classified as either Student Services Professional IA or II, with the IA role functioning in a trainee capacity for approximately six to twelve months before progressing to the SSP I, Range B duties upon successful completion of training.

Requirements

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.
For SSP-IA: No experience required.
For SSP II: Two years of full-time professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
For SSP II: A Master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
Additional specialized experience may be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis.
Must have strong knowledge of several sports’ rules.
Able to handle fluctuating volume and intensity of business, including crowds and occasionally difficult customers.
Must complete employer-provided training and maintain certification for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Must maintain a valid California Driver's License and continued completion and compliance of the CSU Defensive Driver's Training course.
Must be a "General Mandated Reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and comply with CSU Executive Order 1083.

Nice To Haves

Experience coaching, advising, and/or supervising student-athletes.
A bachelor's degree in a job-related field.
Previous experience in recreational sports programming in a collegiate setting.
Officiating experience.
Previous experience with summer camps or youth programming.

Responsibilities

Administration and coordination of collegiate intramural sports, esports/gaming, and youth programs.
Assessment, maintenance, and development of the Intramural Sports program.
Coordination and operations of the department's summer recreational programs for children.
Ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, laws, and executive memorandums.
Monitoring program budgets and staff.
Serving as a contributing member within campus recreation.
Participating in strategic planning.
Representing Recreational Sports on selected committees, boards, and task forces.
Handling complex, sensitive situations involving college-age students and youth.
Completing employer-provided training and maintaining certification for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Maintaining a valid California Driver's License and completing the CSU Defensive Driver's Training course.
