About The Position

This position is responsible for the administration and coordination of collegiate intramural sports, esports/gaming, and youth programs within the Recreational Sports Department. The role involves assessing, maintaining, and developing the Intramural Sports program. During the summer, the incumbent will coordinate and operate the department's summer recreational programs for children. The position requires interaction with college-age students and youth, often dealing with complex and sensitive situations. Regular night work, occasional early mornings, and weekend hours are expected as circumstances dictate.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field.
  • For SSP II: Two years of full-time professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.
  • For SSP II: A Master’s degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.
  • Additional specialized experience which demonstrates the applicant has successfully applied the knowledge and abilities of a Student Services professional may also be substituted for required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must maintain a valid California Driver's License.
  • Must complete and comply with the CSU Defensive Driver's Training course.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience coaching, advising, and/or supervising student-athletes.
  • A bachelor's degree in a job-related field.
  • Previous experience in recreational sports programming in a collegiate setting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of several sports’ rules.
  • Preference may be given to those with officiating experience.
  • Able to handle fluctuating volume and intensity of business, including crowds and occasionally difficult customers.
  • Previous experience with summer camps or youth programming.

Responsibilities

  • Administration and coordination of collegiate intramural sports, esports/gaming, and youth programs.
  • Assessment, maintenance, and development of the Intramural Sports program.
  • Coordination and operations of the department's summer recreational programs for children.
  • Ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, laws, and executive memorandums.
  • Monitoring program budgets and staff.
  • Serving as a contributing member within campus recreation.
  • Participating in strategic planning.
  • Representing Recreational Sports on selected committees, boards, and task forces.
  • Dealing with complex, sensitive situations, interacting with college-age students and youth.
