Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned
  • ESL certification required
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and adults
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of parents, students, and staff
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of appropriate strategies for reducing behaviors that put students at-risk of not graduating
  • Ability to analyze, develop, implement, and track intervention plans and strategies
  • Knowledge of and the ability to analyze and interpret data
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience in an elementary

Responsibilities

  • Implement positive behavioral supports in the learning environment.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district’s curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual student differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to differentiate instruction to meet the learning needs of students.
  • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  • Establish positive relationships with students in at-risk situations and provide a supportive learning environment to increase the likelihood that these students will stay in school and graduate.
  • Identify at-risk students who are included in progress reports and at the end of grade reporting periods.
  • Identify at-risk students who are failing more than one subject.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Maintain at-risk student academic data for the purpose of keeping track of student progress.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
  • Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Be a positive role model for students; support mission of school district.
  • Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Collaborate with district and campus administrators and teachers to design academic plans to assist identified struggling students.
  • Work with students, parents, and staff to ensure students’ academic success.
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Assist with preparation and delivery of research-based professional development.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings as required.
  • Work with faculty and administrators to adapt curriculum and instruction to meet the needs of identified students.
  • Assist with collection and assembling of academic data and interpret this information for instructional purposes.
  • Compile reports as required.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
