About The Position

Progressive Directions, Inc. (PDI) is seeking compassionate, experienced Early Interventionists to support families and young children (ages 0–4) with developmental delays or disabilities. The role involves coaching and empowering families in their natural environments—homes, childcare centers, or other community settings—to help each child reach their fullest potential. PDI is a private, non-profit organization serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities throughout Tennessee since 1976, dedicated to helping people live with Pride, Dignity, and Independence through person-centered supports and family-focused services. The Early Intervention Department provides in-home developmental therapy and family support for infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities, working alongside families to create meaningful, everyday learning experiences. The team collaborates closely with Tennessee’s Early Intervention System (TEIS) to ensure high-quality, individualized support in natural environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Special Education, Early Childhood Education, Child and Family Studies (child development), Early Intervention, Deaf Education, Visual Disabilities, Special Education K-12, Elementary Education, Communication Disorders, and Speech Language Pathology, along with experience with young children and/or people with disabilities, OR Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work, Nursing, Psychology, Education Administration, or Sociology, along with a minimum of 3 years of experience with children with disabilities (0-5 years old) and their families
  • Reliable transportation, as local travel is required
  • Must pass a criminal background check and drug test

Responsibilities

  • Coach and support families of children (ages 0–4) with developmental delays or disabilities in their homes, childcare centers, or any other environment natural to the child on your caseload
  • Support families in working toward their Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) goals
  • Collaborate with service coordinators, teachers, and other therapists on the team to achieve optimal outcomes for the child and family
  • Record and maintain documentation of services and contacts within set timelines using the state’s web-based system (TEIDS)
  • Conduct developmental screenings, assessments, and progress reports within DOE and TEIS timelines
  • Educate and support families in understanding developmental milestones, effective parenting strategies, and available community resources
  • Facilitate children’s transitions to future programs or educational placements
  • Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and DOE compliance standards
