About The Position

The interventional special procedures technologist assists with providing safe, age-appropriate care to the patient by performing all exams provided by the department according to department procedures. The technologist has the knowledge and ability to safely perform diagnostic and interventional procedures. He/she is responsible for performing a wide variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. The technologist is able to independently perform job functions. He/she sets up the equipment to provide imaging service and positions patient for the procedure. The interventional tech 4 functions independently in the Interventional Radiology (IR), Vascular Hybrid, and Neuro-interventional setting and participate in the interventional call rotation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma General or GED General or Accredited Program Radiologic Technology
  • BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor
  • ARRT-CV - ARRT Cardio Vascular Interven or ARRT-R - ARRT Radiography or ARRT-VI - ARRT Vascular Intervention Rad or RCIS - Registered CVI Specialist or RCES - Reg Cardiac Electrophysi Spec
  • Additional certification in Cardiovascular or Vascular Intervention Upon Hire Preferred
  • Minimum 4 years minimum interventional neuro experience Required or Minimum 2 years cardiology with 2 year of combined neuro experience.
  • Competency in all aspects of IR, Vascular, and Neuro Interventional procedures, patient positioning, exposure factors and radiation protection.
  • High Required special/advanced procedure registry as outline above.
  • Must understand anatomy and pathology as well as how they affect the quality of a procedure.
  • The individual must be able to communicate and understand verbal and written English language and display a positive attitude.
  • Must be able to function independently in the IR, Vascular, and Neuro interventional setting and function independently in an on-call rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Completion of VI competencies
  • Able to use critical thinking skills
  • Work in conjunction with radiologists/ vascular surgeons/ cardiologists/neurosurgeons
  • Preps the patient for procedure
  • Demonstrates and understands sterile technique
  • Prepares necessary supplies and equipment for procedure
  • Enters appropriate charges for supplies and procedure CPT Codes
  • Must be flexible with hours to meet departmental needs
  • Able to work scheduled and On-Call hours
  • Knows existing lines of communication and authority
  • Handles communications properly
  • Introduces self to patient and/or guardian utilizing proper scripting ie. AIDET
  • Transports patients as needed
  • Provides privacy and comfort for patient/customers
  • Assists with maintenance of departmental records, Joint Commission standards, State and Federal Regulations and performance Improvement.
  • Completes necessary paperwork
  • Answers departmental phone using proper scripting
  • Maintains stock levels and outdates
  • Maintain current License and BLS/ACLS certifications
  • Assist in in-service/training for other medical staff as appropriate
  • Works as a team with other VI staff to obtain the best possible outcome.
  • Performs any other duties as needed when asked by leadership
  • Verifies patient ID using 2 patient identifiers, i.e. Armband, DOB, verbal identification
  • Verifies Written Order and Consent, seeks clarification if order or consent unclear.
  • Uses and understands preprocedural verification/ time out completion
  • Understands and complies with site/ side marking when indicated
  • Responsible for patient, family/support system education
  • Provide post procedural home care instructions as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.
