Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in education from an accredited college or university
  • Appropriate State of Ohio teaching certifications/license/ Intervention Specialist
  • Experience and/or training which evidences the ability to instruct students with moderate to intensive disabilities
  • Provide evidence of active participation in Teacher Based Team meetings
  • Be able to demonstrate how you have applied knowledge and skills acquired from professional development in your content area
  • Provide evidence to demonstrate knowledge of Ohio’s Learning Standards and assessments for this job vacancy
  • Provide evidence to demonstrate the implementation of Ohio’s Learning Standards in your content area
  • Provide documentation of student achievement and progress as it pertains to this job vacancy
  • Knowledge of academic area and teaching methodology
  • Ability to work effectively with others

Responsibilities

  • Manages classroom and implements appropriate programs
  • Develops Individual Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Conducts and participates in team meetings and parent conferences
  • Supervises classroom assistants and volunteers
  • Acts as a liaison with juvenile court officers and other children’s agencies
  • Ensures the safety of students
  • Implements Individual Education Plan objectives through classroom activities including small group, individual and large group lessons
  • Develops and implements behavior management plans for students as needed
  • Maintains a safe environment for all students using crisis intervention techniques if warranted
  • Maintains a classroom conducive to learning and free of health and safety hazards
  • Develops schedules and lesson plans for classroom day allowing for a variety of activities and special events appropriate for student IEP goals
  • Communicates progress through speech and writing, to parents and other school personnel in compliance with state and program policies and procedures
  • Conducts preliminary and ongoing evaluations of student levels and needs through formal and informal means
  • Elicits input from parents, caseworkers, and others involved in student program development
  • Designs appropriate goals and objectives for student IEPs based on evaluations and staff and parent input
  • Adjusts IEPs as needed based on documentation of progress, or problems indicating the need for adjustment of original goals and objectives
  • Works cooperatively to develop programming and evaluation through disciplinary teaming approach
  • Conducts IEP parent conferences as necessary to fulfill program objectives for participation in special education programming for MD/Cross Categorical students
  • Provides direction and training to instructor assistants and/or volunteers assigned to the classroom
  • Communicates to classroom aides information necessary for student program implementation
  • Schedules daily routine for instructor assistants assigned to the classroom
  • Interacts in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  • Maintains respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student grades
  • Promotes good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
  • Attends meetings and in-services as required
  • Instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated
  • Identifies and addresses inappropriate behaviors
  • Adapts regular curriculum and provides alternative teaching techniques to enhance student level
  • Provides classroom teachers with resource information
  • Attends work regularly and punctually
  • Demonstrates a positive work ethic
  • Works cooperatively with others in small groups
  • Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms
  • Observes ethics of the teaching profession; exhibits professional behavior, emotional stability and sound judgment
  • Plans and schedules inclusion of students in a regular homeroom, special homeroom activities, and other classes as needed
  • Attends professional growth seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issues
  • Prepares and implements positive behavior plans
  • Performs other duties that may be assigned by Director of Student Services/Building Principal/Designee
  • Attends staff, IEP, behavior management, team evaluation and curriculum meetings as necessary
  • Works cooperatively with support staff to schedule time for related service evaluation and implementation
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Student Services
