The Behavioral Health School Liaison (BHSL) facilitates the implementation of a school-based behavioral health model. This role is a pivotal member of the school behavioral health team, working collaboratively to address the needs of students in the foster care system and other students identified as needing additional behavioral health support. The liaison serves as the primary connection to community mental health partners, child welfare agencies, and school site administration, helping to establish a data-driven screening and referral process to ensure timely access to services. They also provide resources to parents, maintain accurate records, and offer consultation on interventions for students facing behavioral and emotional barriers to learning. The position ensures interventions are trauma-informed and culturally appropriate, and provides support for de-escalation of students, including check-ins for students from reassignment hearings. The role involves participation in professional development, classroom observations, team meetings, and compiling data for statistical purposes, all while maintaining confidentiality.
