The Behavioral Health School Liaison (BHSL) facilitates the implementation of a school-based behavioral health model. This role is a pivotal member of the school behavioral health team, working collaboratively to address the needs of students in the foster care system and other students identified as needing additional behavioral health support. The liaison serves as the primary connection to community mental health partners, child welfare agencies, and school administration, assisting in the establishment and operation of a school-based behavioral health team. This includes implementing data-based screening and referral protocols, ensuring timely access to services, providing quality assurance in the referral process, and offering resources to parents. The role also involves maintaining accurate records, providing consultation on interventions for students with behavioral and emotional barriers to learning, ensuring services are trauma-informed and culturally appropriate, and supporting de-escalation efforts. Additionally, the BHSL participates in professional development, conducts classroom observations, attends team meetings, provides check-ins for assigned students, compiles data, and maintains confidentiality.
