About The Position

As an Interpreter, you support non-English-speaking patients and families by interpreting interactions with clinical and other staff, communicating patients’ cultural needs, and translating materials. The role requires dedication to customers, strong second-language knowledge, and cultural sensitivity. The position is full-time, located at RGH Riedman Health Center in the Communication Service department, with a Monday–Friday daytime schedule.

Requirements

• Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
• Successful completion of an Interpreter Education Course before hire.
• Successful completion of a Language Skills assessment before hire.
• A degree or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
• Compassionate, kind, patient-focused demeanor.
• Familiarity with medical terminology and procedures.

Nice To Haves

• National Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Interpret patients’ cultural needs to service staff and interpret clinical and other interactions between patients, families, and staff.
• Translate documents and other printed materials as requested by the organization, and arrange for outside translation vendors as needed.
• Respond in a timely manner to on-call patient service needs.
• Accept interpretation referrals through pager, voicemail, and other methods for emergency and scheduled interactions.
• Prioritize requests and recommend use of other interpretation methods when needed.
• Use familiarity with medical terminology and procedures to support interpretation work.
• Participate in cultural sensitivity training opportunities for organization staff on interacting with patients and families from various cultures.
