About The Position

The Medical Interpreter provides interpretation and translation services between patients with limited English proficiency and healthcare staff. The role conveys medical information in a language the patient understands and communicates information provided by patients to healthcare professionals. The interpreter helps patients understand diagnoses, treatment options, and other important information, and translates medical documents such as records and prescriptions. The position requires accurate, unbiased, and confidential communication, empathy for patients in vulnerable situations, and the ability to interpret quickly under pressure. The interpreter may need to work outside normal hours when Voyce cannot be used by a patient.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work outside normal hours if needed when Voyce cannot be used by the patient.
• Strong interpersonal skills, flexibility, and customer service orientation.
• Foreign-language written translation skills.
• Listening skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
• Basic computer skills.

Nice To Haves

• 3–5 years of experience preferred.
• Interpreter/Translator Certificate and/or Certificate of Competency from an approved Interpreter/Translator training program preferred.
• Open to obtaining certification as an employee of CUHC.
