About The Position

This internship position is based at their Mississauga location and will involve supporting environmental and safety initiatives. The intern will work in both an office setting and on the manufacturing plant floor as part of a small site-specific Environment, Health & Safety team, and will also provide administrative support for training records. The role involves assisting with identifying and implementing best practices for waste, water, and energy reduction, supporting EH&S programs related to risk identification and mitigation (ergonomics, chemical exposures), and potentially leading projects such as wastewater discharge compliance, worker chemical exposures, carbon footprint reduction, and overall risk reduction. The intern may also assist in developing business case documents for EH&S capital projects, including data gathering, vendor communication, budget estimates, scheduling, and writing proposals. Accurate records management for training courses is also a key responsibility, requiring collaboration with the Training Coordinator. Communication with plant employees, management, and production supervisors is expected, as is participation in various committee meetings.

Requirements

  • Eligible to work in Canada.
  • Enrolled in a Canadian university throughout the internship.
  • Able to work on-site in the province where hired.
  • Pursuing studies in Environmental Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or Ergonomics program.
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to EH&S.
  • Attention to detail for records management.
  • Team player complemented by strong individual initiative.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage changing priorities is a necessity.
  • Must complete a criminal background check and any applicable clearances with respect to the handling and transfer of controlled goods.

Responsibilities

  • Support environmental and safety initiatives for the site.
  • Assist with identifying and implementing best practices for reduction of waste, water use and energy consumption.
  • Provide support for EH&S programs related to risk identification and mitigation, including ergonomics and chemical exposures.
  • Assist with development of business case documents for proposed capital projects related to environment, health and safety.
  • Assist with accurate records management for all training courses in the plant.
  • Communicate with plant employees on the shop floor, as well as with management and production supervisors.
  • Attend and actively participate in various committee meetings (sustainable factory, industrial hygiene, joint health and safety, change management, etc.).
