About The Position

NeighborHealth, formerly East Boston Neighborhood Health Center, is a large community health center serving the greater Boston area with a commitment to patient and community health. Every role is vital in advancing medicine and delivering the best care experience. This position is part-time and located in Adult Medicine at 10 Gove Street – Taylor Building and 20 Maverick Square – Cradock Building.

Requirements

Current Massachusetts MD license.
Board certified/eligible in Internal Medicine required.
1-year relevant primary care experience preferably in a community health and/or ambulatory care setting.
Must complete a background check before beginning employment.

Nice To Haves

Bilingual skills preferred.
Experience with Epic EMR system a plus.

Responsibilities

Provides primary care medical services to adult patients.
Examines, diagnoses, and treats patients.
Performs physical examinations and orders appropriate laboratory testing.
Prescribes medication as needed and treats and follows patients’ courses of illness.
Treats wounds, lacerations, and minor trauma.
Diagnoses and treats internal medical problems.
Engages in preventative medicine techniques such as vaccinations, annual examinations, and cancer screening.
Teaches patients about the importance of healthy diets, liquor control, smoking cessation, and primary and secondary prevention of coronary artery disease and strokes.
Provides personal and family counseling on personal and social illnesses such as alcohol and drug abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV, and AIDS.
Collaborates with team members in the delivery and coordination of preventative and comprehensive primary care services.
Obtains a comprehensive and problem-focused health history.
Performs a comprehensive and problem-focused physical exam.
Provides care that is respectful, culturally appropriate, and compassionate.
Orders and interprets screening and diagnostic tests.
Demonstrates critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision making.
Communicates with patients regarding clinical findings.
Formulates plans based on scientific, evidence-based standards of care and practice guidelines.
Initiates appropriate and timely consultations (with NP, PA and physician colleagues, and others).
Applies research studies pertinent to area of practice and applies theories to guide practice.
Recognizes environmental health problems affecting patients and their families.
Recognizes and responds appropriately to medical emergencies.
Monitors quality of own practice and participates in continuous quality improvement.
Applies/conducts research studies pertinent to area of practice to improve outcomes.
Uses evaluative information including peer review to improve care and practice.
Provides guidance and counseling regarding management of the health/illness condition.
Communicates the patients’ health status in a cultural, linguistically, and age-appropriate manner.
Maintains confidentiality while communicating data, plans, and results in a manner that preserves dignity and privacy of patient.
Communicates clearly and respectfully with department staff and other internal and external stakeholders.
Provides a complete and legal record of care.
Collaborates with other healthcare professionals.
Demonstrates knowledge of relevant legal regulations for NP/PA practice.
Uses sound judgment in assessing conflicting priorities and needs.
Advocates for patients to ensure health needs are met.
Accepts personal responsibility for professional development and the maintenance of professional competence and credentials.
Reviews prescriptions with supervising physician as per state law and department policy.
Assumes accountability for practice.
Acts ethically to meet the needs of patients.
Reports medication errors and unusual and unforeseen clinical outcomes in a timely fashion to appropriate clinical leadership.
Considers access, cost, efficacy, and quality when making care decisions.
Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
Maintains current knowledge of the organization and of the relevant health center departments.
