About The Position

Ellis Medicine is seeking a Cardiac Internist to join the cardiovascular team at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York. This unique opportunity is designed for an Internal Medicine physician who enjoys hospital-based medicine and wants to focus on the inpatient consultation and medical management of cardiovascular patients while maintaining an exceptional work-life balance. The Cardiac Internist will become an integral member of a cardiovascular team of more than 20 physicians and advanced practitioners, working collaboratively with cardiologists and other specialists to provide comprehensive care to hospitalized patients. This is a dedicated weekend position, offering a consistent Friday-Sunday schedule and 12-hour shifts while allowing physicians to maintain flexibility during the remainder of the week.

Requirements

• Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine
• Licensed (or eligible) to practice in New York State
• Strong clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care
• Hospital-based or inpatient medicine experience preferred
• Comfortable caring for medically complex hospitalized patients
• Interest in cardiovascular medicine and multidisciplinary care
• Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative cardiovascular team

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient Internal Medicine consultation for patients receiving cardiovascular care
• Evaluate new cardiology consultations from hospital medicine, emergency medicine, surgery, and other inpatient services
• Perform comprehensive medical assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
• Manage cardiovascular patients with significant medical comorbidities in collaboration with the patient's cardiologist
• Assist with the medical management of conditions including heart failure, coronary artery disease, hypertension, atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias, valvular disease, and other cardiovascular conditions
• Provide pre-procedural and peri-procedural cardiovascular evaluation and risk assessment
• Review laboratory data, ECGs, imaging, telemetry, and other available clinical information to support patient management
• Collaborate with cardiologists and advanced practitioners to coordinate comprehensive patient care
• Facilitate communication among cardiology, hospital medicine, surgery, emergency medicine, and other consulting services
• Communicate treatment recommendations and care plans with patients and families
• Participate in discharge planning and transitions of care
