About The Position

The International Recruitment Officer is responsible for planning, implementing, and delivering international student recruitment activities in support of the University of Guelph’s enrolment goals. The position focuses exclusively on graduate and undergraduate recruitment, outreach, and pre-enrolment engagement. The role does not include admissions adjudication or decision-making responsibilities. This role requires the successful candidate to work three days a week on Guelph Campus, with Tuesdays as a common day in the office.

Requirements

  • 2+ progressive experience in international student recruitment, education marketing, international relations, or a related field.
  • Experience working with international student populations, education agents, counsellors, and external partners is required.
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Experience in travelling internationally with an understanding of travel documentation, logistics, safety protocols, and overall international travel etiquette
  • First-hand cross-cultural communications experience
  • Clear understanding of marketing to other cultures
  • Understanding of integrated strategic marketing with knowledge and use of social media platforms, CRM, and other communication mechanisms
  • Knowledge of business community and related issues and challenges
  • Very strong planning skills
  • Superior interpersonal communications skills, including effective relationship building and experience working with individuals in positions of authority
  • Ability to think and act quickly and effectively under pressure, exercising tact, diplomacy, discretion and good judgment
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent demonstrated analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver recruitment activities in assigned international markets aligned with institutional strategies.
  • Represent the University at secondary schools, school boards, education fairs, and student or parent events.
  • Deliver presentations on the University’s academic programs, and student experience.
  • Build and maintain relationships with guidance counsellors, school administrators, education agents, consultants, university students, and in-country representatives.
  • Coordinate recruitment travel, logistics, scheduling, and on-site delivery.
  • Provide regional coverage and support for the broader recruitment team as required, including temporary coverage of additional markets.
  • Engage alumni and external partners, where appropriate, to support recruitment efforts.
  • Provide international application and admission counselling and support to prospective students, parents, counsellors and agents in accordance with established admission policies.
  • Support recruitment yield and conversion following application and offer issuance without performing admissions functions.
  • Work collaboratively with agents, in-country representatives, and admission staff (process coordination only) to support progression through the recruitment pipeline.
  • Conduct proactive outreach to applicants and offer-holders to reinforce interest, explain timelines and next steps, and reduce barriers to enrolment.
  • Participate in yield initiatives such as virtual events, admitted-student sessions, and targeted recruitment communications.
  • Identify pipeline challenges and share insights with recruitment leadership.
  • Coordinate and host inbound recruitment activities including counsellor tours, visiting school groups, and partner delegations.
  • Arrange campus logistics, schedules, hospitality, and materials for recruitment-focused visits.
  • Coordinate with academic units and service partners to support recruitment events and hosting activity.
  • Support onboarding and engagement of agents, regional partners, and alumni representatives.
  • Represent the International Recruitment team at meetings or events when required.
  • Contribute to recruitment planning documents, proposals, and special initiatives as assigned.
  • Use Slate CRM and other approved platforms to manage recruitment leads, document engagement, and support campaigns.
  • Contribute to recruitment communications including email campaigns, messaging platforms, webinars, and digital engagement.
  • Use recruitment data and reporting tools to inform outreach planning and market activity. Data use is recruitment-focused and does not include admissions decision-making.
