The International Pharmacy Intern role is for a graduate of a non-US-accredited school of pharmacy who has passed the FPGEE and TOEFL and is eligible to apply to complete required US internship hours. The intern follows a mixed-modality learning plan and completes the required internship within 18 months, developing skills in patient care, practice management, leadership, and education. After completing the required US internship hours, the colleague is expected to complete and pass required pharmacist licensure exams and processes within 120 days. Failure to complete the internship within 18 months or obtain pharmacist licensure as prescribed results in removal from the role and separation of employment. Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the intern supports a safe, effective retail pharmacy and provides patient care. Duties include customer service; prescription processing, excluding final prescription verification; regulatory compliance; quality assurance; inventory and workflow management; and participation in patient-care programs. The intern supports pharmacy leadership and staff development, contributes to team goals and pharmacy performance, adapts to a changing community health setting, and completes required training. The role includes customer service and pharmacy operations in-store and at the drive-through, as well as additional health services when permitted by state regulation, certification, and pharmacy leadership.
