About The Position

The International Development Engineering Internship at Rolls-Royce is a 12-week summer program designed to provide interns with hands-on engineering experience in the development of world-class aerospace propulsion systems. Interns will work within the Development Engineering team on major programs like the Trent Fleet, 97CI Step 3, and UltraFan/Demonstrator programmes. This role offers the opportunity to gain practical engineering skills, collaborate with experienced professionals, and contribute to solving real-world problems while experiencing a new culture. The program emphasizes learning, professional development, and making a tangible impact from the start.

Requirements

• Working towards an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, and/or related degree.
• A strong passion for the future of technology.
• A willingness to work flexibly and travel between locations.
• An open-minded, curious, and agile approach to work and career development.
• Understanding how to interpret data and apply it to a decision or next action step.
• Understanding the concept of continuous improvement.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Minimum GPA: 3.0
• Work authorization eligibility: U.S. Citizen.
• Must be a student graduating between December 2027 and May 2028 at the University of Virginia or Virginia Tech to be eligible for this internship.

Responsibilities

• Participating in a 12-week Engineering Internship through real-world assignments on exciting and varied projects.
• Using data, technology, and AI to improve processes.
• Working under the guidance of an experienced engineer and receiving coaching from mentors in the US and UK.
• Developing valuable, transferable skills through varied daily tasks and support from experienced professionals.
• Supporting engineering activities on civil aerospace development programs, solving technical challenges, and delivering project objectives.
• Contributing to engineering investigations, data analysis, reporting, and continuous improvement activities.
• Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across Development Engineering, Design, Test, and Program functions.
