About The Position

The Internal Communications team at Holy Cross is dedicated to sharing vital information across campus and cultivating authentic stories of belonging to support a working and learning environment for students, faculty, and staff. Aligned with the Holy Cross mission, internal communications collaborates with partners across the College to engage with and support the excellent work happening every day. As a member of the Office of Marketing and Communications, reporting to the Director of Internal and Executive Communications, the Internal Communications Specialist is a skilled writer, reporter, relationship builder, tenacious learner, and thoughtful content creator. This role supports the execution of the College’s internal communications strategy to strengthen the sense of community across campus by creating internal-facing communications through Ignite, the College’s Intranet. The goal of this content is to celebrate the College’s diverse work and people. The ideal candidate is an inquisitive storyteller who values the College’s Jesuit liberal arts tradition and demonstrates collaborative and perceptive interpersonal skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1-3 years' professional experience in the fields of communications, journalism, or publishing
  • Write clearly and with an understanding of the needs and strengths of each unique audience at Holy Cross.
  • An ability to edit and provide feedback on written communications.
  • Harvest information on a topic and whittle it down to the key points for audiences to engage with.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to facilitate positive working relationships across the College.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with and industry knowledge of American higher education is a plus, but not required
  • Familiarity with common communications tools and technologies

Responsibilities

  • Support the day-to-day execution of the College’s internal communications strategy through working with campus partners.
  • Work with the Director of Internal and Executive Communications and colleagues to create content and maintain an intranet that engages campus members with news about the institution and campus life.
  • Develop engaging, clear, and effective daily newsletters that promote a deeper sense of belonging and engagement among students, faculty and staff.
  • Curate the homepage of the College’s Intranet to ensure the content is relevant to campus.
  • Keep the editorial and communications calendar up to date to ensure all newsletter submissions are included in a timely manner and are aligned with the College’s strategic plan.
  • Create and disseminate brand-appropriate internal communications to share campus messages, news and institutional communications.
  • Highlight faculty, staff and students on campus in order to build community through original reporting and storytelling that showcases work, initiatives and events.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Internal and Executive Communications to consult with and support campus partners to deliver information effectively to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Stay informed of best practices and trends in employee and internal communications to inform the College’s internal communications strategy.
