About The Position

Spelman College is currently seeking an experienced Communications professional to join the Office of Communications team. The Internal Communications Specialist is responsible for developing a wide range of internally focused communication tasks to increase reach and engagement across the campus community. Under the direction of the Internal & Executive Communications Director, this role works closely with multiple campus partners, including Human Resources, Enrollment Management, Students Affairs and others, to communicate news, events, and announcements to our internal audiences of staff, faculty, students, parents, and Board of Trustees. This individual will develop content for internal audiences, including letters to campus, website stories, and contribute content for various publications. The Specialist is responsible for developing and delivering consistent, professional, and creative content to engage internal audiences. The Specialist has significant knowledge of internal communications best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Writing, Communications, Journalism or similar field
  • 3-5 years of relevant, full-time professional experience
  • Exceptional writing, proofreading and editing skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills

Responsibilities

  • Under direction of the Internal & Executive Communications Director, develop and implement effective internal communications strategies to foster increased information sharing to Spelman’s core internal audiences (faculty, staff, and students)
  • Work across the institution and with student workers to lead content creation for newsletters and Intranet pages
  • Collaborate with campus partners to develop leader messages to the campus community
  • Ensure consistency of voice across all internal channels
  • Edit and review the work of interns and other student workers
  • Work inside and outside the campus community to create content for pitch decks, flyers, digital signage, the web site, presentations, magazines, etc.
  • Support the Internal Communications Team in gathering and creating content for Board of Trustee meetings, State of the College presentations, and talking points for campus events
  • Track work in the team’s editorial calendar and provide routine updates to submitters
  • Collaborate across the campus community on various events and campus-wide messages
