About The Position

Langley Federal Credit Union is hiring a full-time Internal Auditor to work a hybrid schedule from its City Center office in Newport News. The position performs risk-based internal audits evaluating the design and operating effectiveness of the credit union’s governance, risk management, and internal control processes. The auditor executes assigned procedures from planning and control walkthroughs through testing, evidence documentation, and drafting findings, in accordance with the Global Internal Audit Standards and Langley’s audit methodology. The role also supports coordination of external audits and regulatory examinations and validates that management has remediated open issues.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in accounting, finance, business, management information systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant audit experience.
  • At least one year of internal audit, external audit, regulatory examination, or financial institution risk and control experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience within a financial institution.
  • Progress toward the Certified Internal Auditor or another audit-related designation.

Responsibilities

  • Execute assigned segments of risk-based internal audits, including gathering planning information, documenting process flows and controls, conducting walkthroughs, designing and executing test procedures, and evaluating results against control objectives.
  • Prepare audit workpapers to Langley’s documentation standards so an independent reviewer can retrace the work performed, evidence obtained, and basis for conclusions.
  • Identify control deficiencies, evaluate their risk and potential exposure, and draft findings that distinguish design failures from operating failures and state the condition, cause, effect, and recommendation.
  • Discuss preliminary observations with process owners to validate facts and obtain management explanations before escalating findings.
  • Perform validation testing on management action plans and recommend closure only when evidence supports that the control is operating.
  • Apply relevant regulatory guidance to audit scope and testing, including NCUA regulations, FFIEC examination handbooks, Nacha operating rules, and applicable consumer compliance regulations.
  • Apply data analysis techniques to audit testing, using full population analysis instead of sampling where supported by the data, and document the completeness and accuracy of data used as audit evidence.
  • Maintain engagement records in the audit management platform, including time budgets, procedure status, evidence, and issue tracking.
  • Coordinate collection of documents requested by internal audit, external auditors, and regulatory examiners; track requests against deadlines and escalate delays, suspected fraud, significant control failures, or unusual activity to Internal Audit leadership.
  • Maintain the audit calendar and support annual and interim risk assessment processes.

Benefits

  • Affordable medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • Educational assistance covering items such as books, lab fees, and registration costs.
  • Student loan repayment support.
  • Career growth opportunities.
