About The Position

Responsible for the Internal Audit function of Heritage Bank, by fulfilling the duties and requirements set out in the Audit Committee charter, the Internal Audit charter, the Code of Ethics and Audit Plan. Develop, maintain, and execute a risk-based internal audit program including both internally performed audits and oversight of outsourced audit engagements. Perform end-to-end audit activities, planning, control testing, and documentation, while ensuring all workpapers and reports are complete, well-supported, and examiner-defensible in accordance with OCC and IIA standards. Coordinate and manage co-sourced audit relationships, including defining scope, reviewing work quality, validating conclusions, and ensuring outsourced audits meet regulatory expectations and align with internal standards. Prepare and deliver clear, concise, and board-ready audit reports and Audit Committee materials, including audit results, risk insights, audit plan status, and emerging issues. Maintain a centralized audit issue tracking and validation process, including assigning ownership, monitoring remediation progress, validating corrective actions, and escalating overdue or high-risk findings. Ensure ongoing alignment with regulatory expectations (OCC, FFIEC, Interagency Guidance) and serve as a primary audit liaison during regulatory examinations and external audit reviews. Conduct and update the Internal Controls and Compliance Audit Risk Assessments, adjusting the audit plan as needed to reflect changes in risk profile, strategic initiatives, or emerging threats. Provide independent, advisory-level input on internal controls, process improvements, and new initiatives while maintaining audit independence and avoiding operational ownership. Participates in all required BSA training and demonstrates knowledge of BSA relative to job responsibilities. Responsible for security as it applies to this position, both on and off the premises. Perform additional duties as assigned to support team and organizational goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business administration or related field or equivalent education / experience
  • Professional certification (CIA, CCBA, CISA, CRCM, CAMS, or similar), or progress toward certification.
  • 5+ years of Banking experience
  • 5+ years of experience auditing or supporting audits of lending (commercial/consumer), deposit operations, mortgage servicing, treasury, or IT general controls
  • Strong understanding of banking risks
  • Ability to interpret regulations and laws
  • Working knowledge of internal control concepts and risk assessment techniques
  • Ability to analyze processes, interpret evidence, and draw well-supported conclusions
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal skills, including the ability to present findings to non-technical audiences
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and ability to handle sensitive/confidential information
