About The Position

The National Life Group Internship Program was developed to provide real workplace learning and growth opportunities for undergraduate students. Over the years the program has provided students with the opportunity to engage in meaningful, career-relevant work at National Life Group in preparation for full-time employment. This position currently offers an onsite work schedule, with the expectation that you are in the office four (4) days per week during onsite core days. Our current onsite core days are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The work schedule type and core days are subject to change with advance notification and manager discretion. The NLG Internal Audit team is looking to hire two summer interns. NLG Internal Audit interns are part of a diverse and dynamic team of accounting, audit, IT and life insurance professionals. You will gain a foundational understanding of the audit process, including risk assessment, internal control identification and testing techniques. Our team partners across the organization to understand how the business works, identify emerging risks and opportunities, and provide insights that help strengthen processes, decision-making and the company’s ability to achieve its strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Support audit planning, risk assessment, and testing activities by reviewing business processes and financial or operational information, identifying key risks and controls, examining supporting documentation, documenting procedures and results accurately, and escalating potential inconsistencies or issues.
  • Collaborate with Internal Audit team members and business partners to gather information, understand processes, ask thoughtful questions, communicate status updates, and build effective working relationships across the organization.
  • Prepare clear, organized audit summaries that are accurate, complete, timely, and handled in accordance with confidentiality and professional standards.
  • Plan and prioritize assigned work, meet established deadlines, follow through on commitments, adjust effectively as priorities change, and build knowledge of audit concepts and NLG business processes through training, feedback, and hands-on experience.
