About The Position
The National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) is offering a 10-12 week summer internship in the Washington D.C. metro area. This internship offers students the unique opportunity to better understand the intersection of U.S. dairy industry policy, regulatory affairs, and trade. Interns will have the opportunity to learn from NMPF’s expert staff, covering areas including government relations, regulatory affairs, trade, communications, membership services and the National Dairy FARM Program. Interns will support the dynamic regulatory team, engaging in research and editing comments for regulatory agencies. They will also extract key insights for strategic decisions, learn data analysis, and craft communications for members, including interviews and articles. The internship aims to enhance teamwork, communication with leadership, project management, and professional networking. Interns will also gain experience in strategic thinking and advocacy. Additionally, interns will have opportunities to attend meetings on Capitol Hill and with key regulatory agencies.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled Junior, Senior or Graduate Degree student pursuing degrees in dairy, agriculture, food science, social responsibility, economics or related fields
- Must be available and in D.C. for the duration of the internship
- Must have excellent research, writing, and communication skills
Responsibilities
- Perform daily office tasks & assist staff with cooperative membership interactions
- Review, summarize and analyze federal registry notices and Congressional bills
- Develop member-focused communications and educational resources
- Assist with National Dairy FARM Program events and tasks
- Develop one-pagers
- Attend meetings and take notes on behalf of the organization
- Support regulatory team with research and editing comments for regulatory agencies
- Extract key insights that will influence strategic decisions
- Craft communications that resonate with members, including formulating interview questions and converting interviews into articles
- Enhance ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Improve communication effectively with leadership
- Juggle multiple projects with finesse
