About The Position

The National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) is offering a 10-12 week summer internship in the Washington D.C. metro area. This internship offers students the unique opportunity to better understand the intersection of U.S. dairy industry policy, regulatory affairs, and trade. Interns will have the opportunity to learn from NMPF’s expert staff, covering areas including government relations, regulatory affairs, trade, communications, membership services and the National Dairy FARM Program. The intern will be actively involved in various activities and tasks, including performing daily office tasks & assisting staff with cooperative membership interactions, reviewing, summarizing and analyzing federal registry notices and Congressional bills, developing member-focused communications and educational resources, assisting with National Dairy FARM Program events and tasks, developing one-pagers, and attending meetings and taking notes on behalf of the organization. This internship extends beyond specific projects, offering a holistic developmental journey. You'll enhance your ability to work collaboratively within a team, communicate effectively with leadership, juggle multiple projects with finesse, and expand your professional network. Furthermore, you'll dive into strategic thinking and learn the nuances of advocacy with a targeted goal in view. Interns will have rare opportunities to attend meetings on Capitol Hill and with key regulatory agencies, offering unparalleled insights into the legislative and regulatory processes that shape our industry.

Requirements

Currently enrolled Junior, Senior or Graduate Degree student pursuing degrees in dairy, agriculture, food science, social responsibility, economics or related fields
Must be available and in D.C. for the duration of the internship
Must have excellent research, writing, and communication skills

Responsibilities

Support the regulatory team with research and editing of comments submitted to regulatory agencies.
Extract key insights from data analysis and present findings.
Craft communications, including formulating interview questions and writing articles.
Perform daily office tasks and assist staff with cooperative membership interactions.
Review, summarize, and analyze federal registry notices and Congressional bills.
Develop member-focused communications and educational resources.
Assist with National Dairy FARM Program events and tasks.
Develop one-pagers.
Attend meetings and take notes on behalf of the organization.
